I grew up on a farm, and while I may have failed at being a farmer (I’ve never driven a tractor or willingly set foot in a barn), there are a few things I learned to appreciate about my upbringing. One of the best things about farm life is farm food. From fresh-picked strawberries in early summer to the late August sweet corn, to me farm food is far superior tasting than anything I could buy at the local supermarket. Summer treats were snapping peas from the garden and snitching raspberries from the patch. Frozen and canned fruits and vegetables brought a taste of summer to winter.
We are a country founded on capitalism, a.k.a. consumerism. So it’s hard to listen to someone say that there are things we should go without. We’re used to buying the latest and greatest products, even though many times those products are harmful to our health. Today, I’ll show you five toxic products that you should definitely live without.
Ahhhh… spring time is finally here. We all look forward to the warmer temperatures, sunny days and outdoor activities like cook-outs, long walks and picnics at the park. On the down side, many of us have to do battle with allergies and sinus congestion, inflammation, pain and infections with sneezing and coughing and wheezing. Seasonal allergy sufferers are growing in number each year. What, you may ask, is behind the growing numbers and the misery?
I knew the E-cloth was a great product (full disclosure: I have five of them). But I had no idea that this latest giveaway would generate the most response and the most comments we’ve ever seen on our Facebook Fan Page. We had over 100 comments posted...and most of you were very excited and intrigued by the eco-friendly cleaning product.
A 2006 study conducted by researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, and Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory looked at the potential health risks involved with common house hold cleaners. What they discovered was less than comforting: the bottles of cleaners most of us use to clean our kitchen, bathrooms, bedrooms, etc. may actually be hazardous to our health.
“They don’t work,” says Dr. Timothy Scott, author of “American Fooled – The Truth About Antidepressants, Antipsychotics and How We’ve Been Deceived.” He was quite emphatic about it when I recently interviewed him for iHealthTube. Not only don’t they work, he contends, but these “mind drugs” can cause brain damage and other health repercussions which he documents in his thoroughly researched book.
