At 72, Di S. is still in the work force. In fact, she works for Swanson Health Products 20 hours a week, dividing her time between the Accounting Department and Human Resources. Bright and cheerful, with a spring in her step, Di is always ready to be of help. “It’s not about income,” says Di, “it’s about being active.”

My mother Jean, who has just turned 80, was diagnosed with dementia three years ago. Her firm position on that diagnosis was: THERE’S NOTHING WRONG WITH MY MEMORY! End of story. Therefore, neither medication nor any form of natural supplementation could be factored into the situation. No condition equals no treatment, no intervention necessary. Ah, the beauty of denial—until things get, shall we say, colorful…

At 62 years old that’s the question I’m asking myself these days as I seem to be winding up for the next phase of life rather than winding down into old age. It’s a question from a love song written in 1969 for the movie, “The Happy Ending”, which was nominated for an Academy Award. Some of you may remember or recognize it. The song has been sung by many artists over the past 40 years, recently reincarnating in a hauntingly beautiful jazz CD by renowned trumpeter Chris Botti, featuring Sting as the vocalist.

I can't help but feel like I'm writing the outline for episode #3 of a TV miniseries starring Suzanne Somers. Actually, there's enough drama in her book Breakthrough: 8 Steps to Wellness to rival "Roots" or the "Thorn Birds," and her conclusion left me satisfied, yet anxiously awaiting a sequel.

The March 10th topic "Suzanne Somers and the 5 Supplements You Need Now" set a record for number of views received for any post on the Swanson blog. I can't say I'm exactly shocked that you're as interested in anti-aging/bioidentical hormones as I am. The content in Ms. Somers' book Breakthrough: Eight Steps to Wellness has captivated my attention unlike any health book I've read recently. (And I read a lot of them!)

I don't remember a day like this since I began working for Swanson Health Products way back in 1996. The weather is so bad here in Fargo today that we actually closed the corporate office, including the call center. With snow and winds gusting up to 50 miles per hour, the visibility is near zero and many roads are impassable. As a writer, this situation poses no problem since I can work from home. But with news like this, composing copy is the last thing on my mind. I feel like I'm ten years old again, and the school principal has just declared a storm day. Not exactly in a big rush to bury my nose in a math book. All I want to do is put on my pj's and watch bad TV. So, what's on during the daytime...oh, look! I Dream of Jeannie. Wow! Does that ever bring back memories. I love, love, love the oldies. Still, maybe I'll find out more about this cute "Ready to Wear--All Buttoned Up" makeup kit over at HSN.
