It’s been a while since I talked about any of the new products we are bringing in every single month over at SwansonVitamins.com, but a new one just came in that is definitely worth a closer look. It’s a new omega essential fatty acid supplement from New Chapter, and I am pretty excited about it. It’s called Wholemega (what a great name!), and it may be my new omega supplement of choice.
There are a few things that make Wholemega different than most other fish oil supplements. But before we get to those, let’s refresh ourselves as to what exactly essential fatty acids are and why we take fish oil (or flax seed oil) supplements.
First off, we need to understand that not all fats are bad. The word “essential” should be a dead giveaway here, but it actually means that these fats need to come from one’s diet. The body cannot manufacture them itself. Unfortunately, most people don’t eat enough fish or other foods that are good sources of EFAs, so we rely on dietary supplements to keep our bodies healthy with these fast that support cardiovascular health, natural beauty, and brain, nerve and blood health.
Essential fatty acids consist of omega-3s and omega-6s with fairly complicated names. Omega-3 EFAs include alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). They are found in coldwater fish (salmon, herring sardines), fish oil and some vegetable oils, such as flaxseed and walnut oil. Omega-6 EFAs include linoleic and gamma-linolenic acids from nuts, seeds and in plant-based oils, such as borage, primrose, sesame and soybean oil. The family of fats commonly referred to as “good fats” actually include Omega-3, 5, 6, 7 and 9 fatty acids.
Now that we are caught up a little bit with EFAs, on to Wholemega...
Pure not “Purified”
New Chapter’s Wholemega fish oil supplements provide a whole-food approach to essential fatty acids. The Alaskan salmon is wild-caught and processed immediately to maintain freshness and quality. This process also helps ensure that Nature’s whole bounty of vital fatty acids and beneficial nutrients is preserved in each softgel.
Pressed not “Processed”
The best tasting and healthiest oils are pressed, not processed, heated or chemically treated. Just like the healthiest, best tasting olive oils, New Chapter utilizes a similar method to extract the fresh, raw, unfiltered, untreated, unheated (see where I’m going with this) nothing but the good stuff...pure fish oil with its natural antioxidants and 16 whole omegas in unadulterated form.
Don’t just take my word for it. See for yourself. That’s right, you can actually see the difference between whole, naturally pure Wholemega and “purified” fish oils:
(I just pulled my Super EPA Fish Oil bottle out of the drawer to check its clarity...beautifully clear! Maybe I won't switch after all.)
Sustainable Fishing
Wholemega comes from 100% sustainably wild-caught Alaskan Salmon. By using only wild, sustainably caught Alaskan salmon – among the cleanest and most pure fish stocks in the World – chemical processing to deliver purity is not required. So, not only is Wholemega good for your body, it’s good for the Earth as well.
