Not only is coconut a delicious ingredient found in my favorite girl scouts cookie (you know which one I’m talking about…there’s a box hidden in the back of your cupboard right now, isn’t there?), coconut oil is a wonderfully practical resource with an abundance of uses.
From your kitchen to your bathroom, coconut oil is an extremely versatile gift from Mother Nature. Everyone knows that the best tools are multipurpose tools, and all-natural coconut oil can find a use in just about any room of your house. Don't believe me? Well, here’s a list of what you can do with coconut oil…
Kitchen
With its unique taste and high nutritional content, coconut oil is the obvious winner for cooking oils when it comes to healthy cooking. Organic coconut oil is rich in natural antioxidants, particularly vitamin E, which have a protective effect against free radicals that can contribute to your aging and various age-related diseases.
Digestive Health
Can fat really help your gut do its job? While
it may sound backwards, the saturated fats in coconut oil, the good fat (not the fat found in greasy
fast-food!), can actually help you maintain a healthy digestive system
and avoid problems like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Plus, coconut
oil can also help with the absorption of essential nutrients from other foods for overall health and wellness.
Natural Skin Care
Because its natural, healthy fat can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, coconut oil works well as a moisturizer for pretty much all skin types, especially dry skin and aging skin. In fact, coconut oil can be found in the list of ingredients in many high-end skin care products.
Natural Hair Care
Some of the most expensive products in your bathroom are for your hair, which means you have the opportunity to save a whole lot of money if you’re willing to give up the name-brands for Mother Nature’s variety. Coconut oil is already used in many products you probably already use, so why are you spending so much on the name when you can get the natural hair nutrition right from coconut oil? Just use a small dab of coconut oil to moisturize your hair and scalp and throw away your pricey conditioners.
Aromatherapy
Whether you like coconut or not, the soothing aroma of coconut oil is pleasing to us all and can help us wind down after a long, stressful day. The practice of aromatherapy dates back thousands of years…so there must be something to it if the tradition has endured throughout the ages.
Wounds
Although I may not be ready to give up my Neosporin, coconut oil can even be used as a topical protector for wounds, shielding them with a thin chemical layer from outside contaminants. You can apply a small amount of coconut oil to small scrapes and cuts…at least your wound will smell nice!
