“Juicing! I started juicing!!” I found out that probably wasn’t the best thing to say in such an abbreviated manner...out loud...to a bunch of people who are familiar with lifting. After there was an awkward pause, some strange looks and even a few concerned expressions by multiple people standing around, it kind of dawned on me that I really should have probably explained myself a bit further.
For those not familiar with the term, it really has two meanings. It can be used as a term for using anabolic steroids, which explained all of the odd looks I got from everyone. But it's also a term for taking fruits and vegetables and pureeing them into juice for a really healthy drink. For the sake of conversation and this blog, when I mention juicing, I am talking about fruits and veggies!
About three or four weeks ago, I came across an interesting article online about juicing and its benefits. I then came across the idea again while doing some research on the Warrior Diet. After some additional researching online, I went to the local book store and picked up a couple of good juicing recipe books. It also worked out because we had a new juice machine that we had gotten as a gift a few years back and never used. So it was game on! I had to try it, there was no reason not to.
So I talked to my wife and she initially didn’t express any interest. I figured my son wouldn’t be interested either, so it became kind of a solo attempt on my part to see what all this talk was about. I went to the grocery story with my juicing recipes, grabbed a bunch of fresh fruits and different vegetables and embarked on a juicing spree.
The first drink that I decided to create was an orange, apple and kiwi blend. I was in the kitchen juicing away when my son came in and wanted to watch. After I was all done with my first small sample recipe, I had a nice little glass of juice.
Suddenly, my son expressed interest in taking a look at it. Actually his “look” turned into a "quick grab, insert straw, and drink the entire glass down" with a huge smile. Then just as suddenly, my wife became interested in the second glass I made. It was an unexpected hit with everyone!
Well it’s now become a family event, we have all become big fans of juicing and it has been a great additional way for us to take a much more healthy approach with our lives. All I can say is juicing is amazing. It beats any juice you can buy at the grocery store. Its fresh, healthy, tastes amazing and I know this sounds crazy but you can literally feel the natural energy it provides. If you ever have the chance to give a try, I would definitely suggest it.
Until next week!
Rex
