For those of you who keep up with the Swanson Bloggers, you know that this connects to Rex’s last post. To those of you who admire only my posts, here's the disappointing deal: Rex is unable to participate in the Adventure Race that sparked our blogging experience.
I am slightly disappointed, but still look forward to participating in an Adventure Race with Rex next June. But this begs the question: So now what? I must come up with a new purpose for my blog, rather than just rambling about my own summer objectives, which are a bit different than Rex’s.
Dropping my winter weight is a cakewalk. The bigger challenge is keeping the winter layers at bay, and might be an excellent challenge after I’m finished with Plan C, or D, or E, or F.
I will continue to be very active, and maintain a solid level of fitness. I’d still like to train and gain some experience for the Adventure Race we’ll do next year, at a more leisurely pace. Honestly, I didn’t care if I mastered any of the areas; I was really having fun delving into a new world!
PLAN A: Adventure Race with Rex
PLAN B: Adventure Race with (any takers?)
PLAN C: Crazy Horse Half-Marathon in South Dakota
What I need is a new goal to use that fitness level for. If there were any takers, it wouldn’t take much to get me to back to Plan B. Until then, I’m really leaning towards Plan C.
I’ll agree with Rex, we were just scratching the surface of the world of Adventure Racing. I was actually very excited to learn some new skills and take on some new challenges, but after reviewing the investment already made, as well as the list of things still needed, it made me examine my budget. Plan C fits best-I’ve got everything I need!
For now, my summer objectives are taking in as much of the outdoors as I can. I’ve got a canoe trip with my running partner planned and a day at Itasca State Park, MN, where I will participate in my own one-woman adventure—I’m packing my mountain bike, trail runners, and some cash to rent a kayak.
Nature + Movement + Solitude = BLISS
I must report a failure for the week. That challenge to ride my bike EVERYWHERE? I’ve only ridden my bike on 2 long rides, each roughly 14-15 miles. Now, that is not nothing, but it’s not as much as I’d planned. This week doesn’t look any better for riding my bike everywhere.
The Tour De Cure is 5 days away—my next post might likely be written from an ice bath!
I must also report my successes:
I learned how to change my own bike tires
I…ran…after taking a month off
I laced up and took off, and it felt great!
Looking forward to next week's update. Let me know if anybody's interested in partnering up to take on the original adventure race this Fall.
Adventure On!
